Leon vs Claude Code Desktop.

Claude Code Desktop site: code.claude.com/docs/en/desktop
Claude Code Desktop gives every new session its own worktree automatically, with diffs, terminal and browser panes and a sessions sidebar. It only sees Claude. Leon sees every agent CLI and groups sessions across projects and machines. Choose Claude Code Desktop if Claude is your only agent. Choose Leon the day you add a second one.
The table.
Leon: Rust, GPU-rendered UI, 23 to 27 MB download, macOS, Linux, Windows, Apache-2.0, open source.
| LEON | CLAUDE CODE DESKTOP | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | Native workspace for running coding agents in parallel. Rust, GPU-rendered, a 23 to 27 MB download. | Anthropic desktop app for Claude Code: parallel sessions, each in its own worktree, with visual review. Included with Pro and Max. |
| Agent support | 43 built-in terminal agents plus custom agents. History search for Claude Code, Codex and opencode. | Claude only. Codex, OpenCode, Grok and other CLIs are invisible to it. Usage indicator covers the Anthropic plan only. |
| Isolation | One tree for every session: projects, worktrees and machines side by side. Resume, no dupes, history, lights. | Automatic worktree per session under .claude/worktrees, on its own branch. Same .worktreeinclude convention Leon respects. |
| Terminals | Real terminals, split your way, with buffer and live output. | Terminal pane plus side chats that do not pollute the main thread. Two sessions side by side in split panes. |
| Review flow | Review loop is planned, not shipped. Today you review in the terminal and with git, as usual. | Inline diff comments, side-by-side viewer and review pass. Browser pane with dev server and verification. |
| Remote | Add a server over SSH, or share a machine with a ten-symbol code. Relay at relay.getleon.dev is online. End-to-end encrypted. | Local, SSH and Anthropic cloud sessions. No neutral multi-machine tree across vendors. |
| Speed and footprint | 1-2 ms history search over about 14,700 messages; about 5 ms re-import with nothing new; about 6 s test suite. Measured on one M1 Pro. Your machine will differ. The download is 23 to 27 MB as of 0.9.0. | Not published as a footprint number (as of Oct 2026). Desktop GUI, heavier than a Rust workspace by construction. |
| Platforms | macOS, Linux and Windows. | macOS and Windows desktop builds documented. Linux and mobile behaviour not listed as first-class (as of Oct 2026). |
| Licence and price | Apache-2.0, open source. Free. Bring your own agent subscriptions. | Included with Claude Pro and Max. No separate workspace bill. Other agents need their own workspace anyway. |
Beyond the table.
Where Leon is stronger
- Every agent in one tree, not just Claude. Compare Claude against Codex directly.
- Cross-machine sessions: your laptop, a workstation and a server side by side.
- Usage in the footer per agent, not just the Anthropic plan.
Where Claude Code Desktop is stronger
- Automatic worktree per session with the least setup of any tool here.
- Best Claude review flow: diffs, browser pane and verification in one seat.
- Sessions sidebar grouped by project with search and filters.
Honest limits of Leon here
- No automatic per-session browser pane or Claude verification loop.
- Newer project, smaller docs surface than Anthropic.
- Claude-specific niceties like agent teams live in Claude, not in Leon.
Choose honestly.
[ CHOOSE LEON ]
- You run Claude plus Codex, OpenCode or anything else.
- You supervise a portfolio of repos and machines, not one product.
- You want one neutral history across vendors.
[ CHOOSE CLAUDE CODE DESKTOP ]
- Claude is your only agent and you want the seat built for it.
- You want automatic worktrees with zero git plumbing.
- You review visually with the browser pane every day.
Switching takes minutes.
Both tools run the same repos and the same agent CLIs.
- Same .claude/worktrees convention and same .worktreeinclude file.
- Resume Claude sessions where they are. Add other agents beside them in Leon.
- No export. Both tools read the same checkouts.
Questions.
Do worktrees conflict between the two?
No. Both default under .claude/worktrees with their own branch names. Leon never touches a worktree it did not create unless you ask it to.
Can Leon search Claude history?
Yes. Claude Code history is searchable and resumable in Leon, alongside Codex and opencode.
Should I pick one?
If Claude is everything, stay in its desktop app. If a second agent appears, add Leon beside it rather than replacing anything.
